Recent advancements in molecular biology have made DNA analysis a standard practice in crime laboratories. DNA serves as a powerful tool for identifying unknown human remains. Due to its protective encasement by dentin and enamel—collectively known as dental armor—human dental pulp provides an excellent and reliable source of DNA for forensic identification. This Keynote presentation reviews current literature on the use of teeth as a DNA source and evaluates their suitability for DNA fingerprinting in forensic science.
