Abstract

Oral care is integral for both psychological and physiological health and wellbeing One of the most important challenges faced by dental health care professionals is management of children in the dental setupHowever many tend to transfer these appointments due to extended periods of time required for their management However this further creates a greater hurdle hwen it comes to management of children with special health care needs as well Many children with special needs have poorer oral health than typically developing children and experience difficulty obtaining adequate oral health careThe multisensorystimulating environment which is usually presented in a pleasurable and relaxing space known as the Snoezelen room is proposed as an effective therapy in treating children with special health care needsThese children often face unique sensory cognitive and behavioral challenges that can make conventional dental visits stressful and unmanageable A sensoryadapted dental environment SADE offers to provide a highly interactive solution in enhancing and creating an environment which is calming and relaxing to both children and adultsThis new concept would significantly change the dental experience for children turning them into an interactive learning experience in the new environment
