Abstract
Background and Aim: Radiography is an integral part of dental scintic, however, the use of ionizing radiation diagnostic methods is not without risk. The benefits that can be gained from radiographic images in diagnosis should be weighed against the financial cost and problems caused by radiation exposure. The aim of this study was to agree on the diagnosis of interproximal caries by BW and CBCT radiographs. Method: In this research we used archived radiographs from parto radiology in Qazvin. The required samples were selected from patients whose bite-wing radiography and CBCT were requested by their physician. By examining the archives of the mentioned center, 55 files were extracted from them. The files were examined simultaneously by two observers (radiologist and maxillofacial disease specialist) and the findings related to the presence or absence of caries and the depth of caries were recorded in pre-prepared sheets. The results were statistically analyzed by SPSS software version 21 and Chi-square test. Results: CBCT and BW techniques were highly agreed in the diagnosis of dentin caries and healthy surfaces. In the diagnosis of caries at the DEJ level and caries at the enamel surfaces, the agreement was moderate. Conclusion: The agreement between Bitewing and CBCT in the diagnosis of interproximal caries is almost complete if the tooth is healthy or has dentin caries, and in the presence of enamel or DEJ caries, the agreement is moderate. Audience Take Away • The audience will be able to prescribe CBCT to detect caries. • Audience will detect caries more accurate.Biography
